Welcome |
Youth crime creates a very real blight on the lives of too many individuals and communities in Scotland. It represents a tragic waste and a lost opportunity to harness the skills and talents of many young Scottish people. Children who offend can be helped to stop offending – but if they continue to offend, effective measures must be taken Cathy Jamieson Welcome to the website of the Aberdeen Youth Justice Strategy Group The Strategy Group was formed in response to recognition by the Scottish Executive of the importance of bringing agencies together to tackle youth crime and its effect on local communities. Formed in 2002, the Group and its constituent sub-groups now contain membership by over 15 agencies. The overall aim of the Aberdeen Youth Justice Strategy Group is to lead and co-ordinate the prevention and reduction of offending by children and young people in Aberdeen and, in so doing, both improve community safety and ensure better outcomes for children and young people engaged in offending behaviour. The aims of this website is to make the youth justice process accessible to all, whether your interest in it is personal or professional. Sections include information for victims, communities, witnesses and for young people who have been charged with an offence. A directory of agencies and services is included, as are links to sources of further information. This website also sets the formation of this Group in the context of national developments and how we are responding to these on a local level. Above all we want this site to be user-friendly and to provide you with the information that you need. Please contact us with any comments or queries that you have.
